Cuba: Marathon swimmer Nyad eyes new Florida swim

<p style="text-align: justify;">HAVANA (AP) — Cuban authorities said Thursday that American Diana Nyad plans another shot at swimming from Cuba to Key West after falling short of her goal last month. An email from Cuban press officials invited journalists to an encounter with the swimmer Friday at a marina in Havana. "Diana Nyad will offer a news conference before once again beginning to swim across the Florida Straits between Havana and Key West, in continuation of the attempt realized on Aug. 7," the invitation read. TACA adds Havana flights

<p style="text-align: justify;">El Salvador-based TACA Airlines started a three-flights-a-week connection between San Salvador and Havana. TACA, a subsidiary of the Avianca-TACA Ltd. holding, is using A-319 aircraft on the route. The announcement is the direct outcome of a partial-reach trade agreement Cuba signed with El Salvador. he Central American country is one of the last in the hemisphere to establish full relations with Cuba. The inaugural flight brought airline officials as well as tour operators, travel agents and journalists from El Salvador to Havana. Read More

Delta-Marazul flights to Cuba start Oct. 1

<p style="text-align: justify;">Atlanta Business Chronicle. Thursday, September 22, 2011, 10:31am EDT. The previously reported venture between Marazul and Delta Air Lines Inc. will begin flights to Cuba Oct. 1.Flights will be from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Miami, and New York JFK. It includes three weekly Havana flights on Saturdays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and two weekly flights to Camaguey on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Read More

Chavez completes fourth chemo treatment in Cuba

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is feeling well after completing a fourth round of chemotherapy in Cuba, the leftwing leader said in a telephone call to supporters broadcast on state TV. "I am finishing up here in Havana on the last day of the fourth round of chemotherapy and I hope it will be my last (round)," Chavez said Wednesday to socialist supporters who were holding an ecumenical mass for him in New York. <p style="text-align: justify;">Cuban scientists are working on developing oil-eating bacteria, Communist Party daily Granma reported.Biotechnology researchers with the Instituto de Oceanología are developing the product, called BIOIL-FC, just a concern in the United States is rising about planned offshore drilling in Cuba. Florida Orchestra Woodwind Quintet to Perform in Havana
