A U.S. oil delegation visited Havana this month to be briefed about Cuban safety procedures regarding deep-sea drilling. A Chinese-made platform is on the way to Cuba and expected to begin drilling for a Spanish-Norwegian-Indian consortium in the Florida Strait in December.

Also, researchers are systematically searching for marine organisms around Cuba’s coast with potential for medicinal use, the article said. The government is promoting the development of dietary supplements and natural medicine to substitute imports.
