Cuba’s statistical office — Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas — just released preliminary electric power sector indicators for 2010 reflecting a negligible reduction in total electricity demand of less than one percent. Total electric generation for 2010 was 17,573.6 gigawatt/hours compared with 17,709.1 gigawatt/hours for 2009. Electricity generation accounts for more than half of Cuba’s demand for oil.
