Cuba joins net's fast lane

<p style="text-align: justify;">Havana. January 25, 2011. Cuba is about to join the high-speed broadband era with an undersea fibre-optic cable laid from Venezuela, bringing the promise of speedy internet to one of the world's least connected countries.A specialised ship has sailed from Camuri beach, near the Venezuelan port of La Guaria, trailing the cable from buoys on the start of a 1600-kilometre journey across the Caribbean Sea.Officials hailed the project as a blow to the United States embargo on the island. Florida boater rescued by Carnival Cruise Ship

<p style="text-align: justify;">When three Florida men set off for Mexico to meet their wives on Thursday, they probably didn't know that the adventure would turn into a nightmare. Their small boat became disabled and nearly capsized due to high winds and waves roughly 30 miles north of Cuba. Federal ban lifted, UI hopes to open study abroad in Cuba

University of Iowa students could soon have the chance to study abroad in once off-limits Cuba because of recent federal policy changes.President Obama’s administration lifted restrictions on study abroad programs to Cuba on Jan. 14, overturning limits put in place by then-President George W. Cuba stops U.S. mail because of restrictions that cause returned mail

<p style="text-align: justify;">Mail services between Cuba and the U.S. were suspended in 1963.Talks between Obama and Cuban officials resulted in resumption of service but only through third countries such as Canada and Mexico in 2009. Direct deliveries were under discussion.The Cuban postal authorities announced:"Until further notice Cuban post offices cannot keep accepting any type of mail for the United States," A statement was read on TV.
