Xi: Cuba showing clear direction for future

HAVANA, Cuba - Vice-President Xi Jinping praised the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party for showing a clear direction for the country's future development.In a written speech delivered to the press at the Jose Marti Airport in the Cuban capital Havana on Saturday night, Xi voiced his determination to expand consensus, enhance friendship, deepen cooperation and seek common development with the Caribbean island nation.Xi praised Cuba's relationship with China, which dates back to 1960, when Cuba became the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic ties with China. China signs letter of intent to redo Cuba refinery

<p style="text-align: justify;">HAVANA - CHINA signed a letter of intent to refurbish a Cuban oil refinery and agreed to give new credit and start drawing up a five-year cooperation plan between the two communist-run countries in accords signed on Sunday during a visit by Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping.The agreement on the refinery was the first official word on a project first reported by Reuters in November that is expected to cost US$6 billion (S$7.36 billion) and would be a significant step forward in budding Cuba-Chinese economic relations. China backs Cuba reforms

Cuba and China strengthened their political and economic alliance Sunday by signing 10 new cooperation agreements that will provide Havana with much needed financial support to implement its plan of economic reforms. The accords were signed in the presence of Cuban President Raul Castro and Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping.The agreements "reflect the political will of both parties and governments to continue deepening their ties," an official Cuban announcement said. Cuba Hosts Meeting of Control Bodies From Central America and the Caribbean

The 35th meeting of the Central American and Caribbean organization of governmental supervising bodies (OCCEFS, Spanish) starts this Friday in Havana at the Palco Hotel. Cuba, represented by the country's General Comptroller, was elected president of the organization in 2010. OCCEFS emerged in 1995 in El Salvador and comprises control and supervision bodies from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Belize and Cuba. Read More
