ARLINGTON -- Costa Rica simply dominated Cuba in the opening match of the 2011 Gold Cup at Cowboys Stadium on Sunday.

Costa Rica rolled to a 5-0 victory even without playing its injured captain, Bryan Ruiz, in midfield.

The Cuban defense pushed a high line to the midfield stripe. However, crafty passing and patient timing from the Costa Rican midfield and forwards allowed them to run basically at will into the Cuban penalty area.

Marco Urena paced Costa Rica with a pair of goals, the first and third. Heiner Mora also enjoyed a solid night from midfield with a goal and an assist.

Group A play won't get any easier for Cuba as mighty Mexico awaits in the next match on Thursday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
