Cuban duet Buena Fe on tour around Venezuela

Italy Interested in Collaborating with Cuban Province

Black Venus film in Cuban Theaters

<p style="text-align: justify;">The French film The Black Venus, starring Cuban Yahima Torres in her acting debut, is now in Havana movie theaters. Directed by Adbellatif Kechiche, the film has won praise from international critics and the Lumiere prize for Torres as best actress for playing South African woman Saartje Baartman, the victim of racism in early 19th century France. In statements to Prensa Latina when the film opened in Havana on Saturday, the 30-year-old Torres said the role changed her life not only as an actress but also as a human being. Read More

Reforestation Progresses in Eastern Cuba

Embargo may block U.S. response to Cuban oil spill

With oil exploration set to begin in Cuba’s Gulf of Mexico waters, pressure is mounting on the administration to relax a politically sensitive embargo that would prevent U.S. firms from responding swiftly to potential oil spills roughly 50 miles from Florida beaches. The U.S. trade embargo against Cuba generally bars U.S. commerce with the nation and caps at 10 percent the portion of American-made components in offshore drilling equipment used in Cuba.That means containment equipment developed after last year’s oil spill would be off-limits — at least initially – if the same thing happened in Cuba’s part of the Gulf. Xi: Cuba showing clear direction for future

China signs letter of intent to redo Cuba refinery

<p style="text-align: justify;">HAVANA - CHINA signed a letter of intent to refurbish a Cuban oil refinery and agreed to give new credit and start drawing up a five-year cooperation plan between the two communist-run countries in accords signed on Sunday during a visit by Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping.The agreement on the refinery was the first official word on a project first reported by Reuters in November that is expected to cost US$6 billion (S$7.36 billion) and would be a significant step forward in budding Cuba-Chinese economic relations. Cuba and China strengthened their political and economic alliance Sunday by signing 10 new cooperation agreements that will provide Havana with much needed financial support to implement its plan of economic reforms.
