JPMorgan fined for contravening Iran, Cuba sanctions

<p style="text-align: justify;">JPMorgan Chase Bank has been fined $88.3 million for contravening US sanctions against regimes in Iran, Cuba and Sudan, and the former Liberian government, the US Treasury Department announced Thursday. The Treasury said that the bank had engaged in a number of "egregious" financial transfers, loans and other facilities involving those countries but, in announcing a settlement with the bank, said they were "apparent" violations of various sanctions regulations. Cuba Keeps Reviving Rail Sector

<p style="text-align: justify;">Havana, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) The Industrial Fixtures Company has produced 104,000 concrete sleepers up to the present as part of the strategy to revive Cuba's rail sector. Julio Cesar Hubert, head of that enterprise, based in the province of Villa Clara, noted that this figure covers more than half of the planned number of concrete sleepers to be built this year. Cuba attacks $1.5tn world arms spending

Cuba assumed the presidency of the Geneva-based Conference on Disarmament on Tuesday, insisting that the $1.5 trillion (£910 billion) currently squandered on military expenditures and war each year should instead be used to promote social development. Musicians from Six Countries in Cuban Rumba Festival

Labiofam makes marketing pitch for cancer medicine in Europe

<p style="text-align: justify;">After 15 years of development, Cuban state company Labiofam S.A. landed its first export deal for Vidatox, a tumor-fighting homeopathic medicine, the Cuban foreign ministry announced after Minsk-based PharmLand LLC agreed to market and distribute the product in Belarus. Belarus is one stop in a Labiofam sales campaign throughout Europe.
