Thousands Participate in Maracuba, Marabana Races

<p style="text-align: justify;">The streets of Cuba filled up with sports enthusiasts on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., as hundreds of thousands of runners and walkers joined in the Maracuba race of 3,000 or 4,000 meters. The popular run, held simultaneously all over the country, is the prelude to the Marabana marathon on Sunday, where more than 2,500 runners from 63 countries will compete, according to the event´s director, Carlos Gattorno. Cuba's economic reform prompts national debate

Thinning ozone could be leaving whales sunburned

<p style="text-align: justify;">LONDON (AP) -- The thinning ozone layer could be leaving the world’s whales scarred from severe sunburn, experts said Wednesday. A study of whales in the Gulf of California over the past few years shows that the sea-going mammals carry blisters and other damage typically associated with the skin damage that humans suffer from exposure to the ultraviolet radiation. Travel Bill Confirmed DOA. What Next?

<p style="text-align: justify;">It has been reported in the Congressional Quarterly that Rep. Berman will not bring the travel bill for mark-up during the lame-duck session. How should this be interpreted? Several options: 1) The inevitable result of the mid-term election results and Rep.Ros-Lehtinen's anticipated position as chair. (Too few committee members will work through the lame duck session--the losers are moving out of offices as is the staff.) 2) Berman never had sufficient support, as the Hill reported at the time of the announcement, and "postponement" of the mark-up was just a face-saving tactic because the election results were predictable. 3) Al Fox was right. Multi-Latin Grammy Award Winner, Chucho Valdes Begins Int'l Tour in Spain

Prior to hosting the Jazz Plaza Festival of Havana from December 16 to 19, Valdes will perform with his band at the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona where he will present his new album Chucho’s Steps.
