Indeed, Cuba represents the main locus of residence for the `isleños' outside the Canary Islands during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In this lecture, Professors Germán Santana Pérez and María Hernández-Ojeda will discuss the history of migrations, the socio-cultural relations and literary production created in the transatlantic space between Cuba and the Canary Islands. Tropical Storm Nicole forms over Cuba

<p style="text-align: justify;">MIAMI – Tropical Storm Nicole has formed over Cuba after soaking the country with downpours as a tropical depression. The storm has maximum sustained winds Wednesday near 40 mph (65 kph) with little change in strength expected. Tropical storm warnings and watches that had been in effect for South Florida have been canceled. Tropical storm warnings remain in effect for the Cayman Islands, parts of Cuba and the northwestern and central Bahamas. Read More

Cuba to Host Int’l Meeting on Sustainable Tourism

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 28 (acn) Creating an economically feasible, social tourism product that generate benefits for both the region and its visitors will be the core of the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism to be hosted by Cuba. The meeting will take place at the Melia Cohiba hotel in Havana from November 6 to 9 and will be attended by some 300 participants from all over the world, as representative of the Cuban Conventions Bureau announced. Berman (D-CA), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the markup of H.R. 4645, the Travel Restriction Reform and Export Enhancement Act: "For a very long time, I have either led or supported efforts to repeal restrictions on the freedom of Americans to travel. The current prohibition on Americans traveling to Cuba is the last obstacle to the full enjoyment of this right. I strongly support H.R.4645, the Travel Restriction Reform and Export Enhancement Act, which would eliminate the Cuba travel restrictions. Read More
