A statue of legendary Argentinean-Cuban Commander Ernesto (Che) Guevara to Be Inaugurated in His Birthplace
"The statue will be located in the Irigoyen Park, in the La Tablada neighborhood, during the main activity to mark the occasion," said Cuban writers Adys Cupull and Froilán González.

They added that the ceremony will take place right after a march along the capitals main streets and venues. On hand will be Ches relatives, Argentinean local, provincial and national authorities and guests from various Latin American nations.

They noted that artist Andrés Zerneri is the creator of the piece, which will be taken to Rosario on June 1st from Buenos Aires, where it will be loaded on board a vessel on May 28th.

Once in Rosario, the statue will be taken to the area of Laprida and 27 de Febrero, where it will remain until its final siting, escorted by members of Argentinean associations, who have organized a number of events to pay homage to the legendary guerrilla fighter.

Zerneri used keys, collected for several months, to build the 3-meter high monument, which shows Che wearing his beret and his guerrilla uniform.

The inauguration of the statue will be the most important in a series of actions to transform Rosario into the world capital of celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of Che's birth on June 14, 1928.

The events program includes debates and meetings with the participation of representatives from social, political and labor organizations. It includes also recitals by renowned popular artists.

On Sunday, June 15th, there will be a great international concert at the Independencia Park, entitled "Nuestra América le canta al Che" (Our America Sings to Che).
