The popular Cuban singer Coco Freeman has just lived, one after another, two extreme emotions, a contrast he will never forget: his participation in the Festival Viña del Mar and the Chilean earthquake.

The Cuban artist has a successful performance in the international contest of the Festival singing the theme "Para vivir" (To live) by Pablo Milanes and came to share the finals with an Argentinean and an Italian.

As Saturday's earthquake interrupted the Chilean song festival, the jury promised to communicate in the next days its final decision accompanied by a "Golden Gull."

We already feel ourselves like winners, even if we do not get the official award, the famous festival's Gull but I think we already have the Gull's heart.

Freeman explained he perceived a great public support, other participants support and that of Chilean artists who greeted him on the street and in the hotel where the earthquake surprised him.

That Gull the people gives you when they stop you and congratulate you, is irreplaceable and that is the one we take in our heart, hoping the jury is still as fair as it has always been.

I felt so much singing that song that I think that was what I transmitted, declared Freeman after highlighting that "Para vivir" (To Live) is an intense song, it is like a hymn, composed by one of our greatest and most beloved singer-songwriters.

Shortly after arriving at his hotel in Viña del Mar, still excited by his successful competition, Coco Freeman was surprised -as well as millions of Chileans- by an earthquake of 8.8 degrees on the Richter scale, one of the largest in the history.

I panic at seeing the hotel moving like a piece of paper with me inside. The lights went out and lit up, until they finally shut down. Things were falling; I almost fell on the floor because of the big move. I saw people running down the stairs wearing whatever they had on, he stated.

After a few minutes we heard rumors of a large tsunami heading towards Viña del Mar and we had to climb to a nearby hill. It was four in the morning and the earth was shaking from time to time, they were replicas but really strong ones, he added.

And with that contrast of extreme emotion, he hopes for his deserved Gaviota.
