Curtis Hanson, director of “L.A Confidencial” at the Havana Festival will take part at the
Festival of the New Latin American Cinema, informed sources of the organizing committee to AFP.

The same sources indicated that Hanson, 64 years old, who won an Oscar award for the above mentioned movies and is also the producer of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (1992), Wonder Boys (2000) and 8 Mile (2002) took part in the opening ceremony of
the Festival.

Another personality who will add luster to the festival will be the famous US guitar composer, Gary Lucas, who will make a show by accompanying with his electric guitar the screening of the Hispanic version of the movie Dracula (1931), directed by
Georges Meldford.

Lucas “who has dedicated part of his job to add live sound to silent movies, proposed us a show with electric guitar for this movie”, which copy, of very good quality, was discovered in the 80 at the Cuban Film Library, informed Ivan Giroud, director
of the festival in an interview published in the newspaper of the event.

Lucas, who is considered one of the five best guitar players of live rock, played with Jeff Buckley and the group Captain Beefheart. During his career he played with great singers and composers, such as Leonard Berstein, Lou Reed, John Cale, Robyn
Hitchock, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop or Bryan Ferry.

They both will coincide in the Havana festival with their fellow countryman, the producer and musician Robert Kraft, musical supervisor of important movies such as Titanic and Moulin.

Even though the festival had a frequent presence of US artists, it was reduced since 2004, when the George W Bush strengthened the travel restriction to Cuba.

However, under the Barack Obama administration, the exchanges between artists, scientific and sportsmen are becoming more usual.

The International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema, will end the 13 of December, with 104 movies in competition and another 170 Latin American movies out of competition.
