Cuban Congress to Discuss the A H1N1 Virus, which will gather over 400 specialists from 25 nations.

IPK director, Gustavo Kouri, pointed out that the work to contain the disease carried out on the archipelago, where only four cases have been detected (three Mexican students and a Canadian boy, already discharged from hospital) will be acknowledged during the event.
Other infectious diseases of strong impact at an international level, like HIV/AIDS, dengue and malaria, will be among the themes of the Congress, which will gather over 400 specialists from 25 nations.
Cuban scientific advances in biotechnology and their application in transmissible diseases and in the production of vaccines will be presented during the meeting.
Participating in the Congress will be prestigious international lecturers, like Dr. Jarbas Barbosa da Silva, from the Pan-American Health Organization, and IPK deputy director for Microbiology, Alina Llop, among other Cuban experts.
The event, to be held at Havana’s Convention Center, will also include the 4th National Congress of Tropical Medicine, and will pay tribute to IPK, founded on December 8, 1937, by Professor Pedro Kouri.
Two courses were scheduled to take place prior to the meeting. One was held on May 15 in Santiago de Cuba’s Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital, and the second one has been programmed for Sunday, at the host institution.
