They began implanting stems cells obtained from the patients themselves at the Lucía Iñiguez Clinical Surgical Hospital in November 2008.

Stem-cells transplants have been successful to treat lower limbs affected by chronic arterial insufficiency.

According to experts, that procedure is feasible to reduce the number of amputations and improve the patients' quality of life.

That experience might be use at the hospital's Angiology Service to reproduce other tissues.

The therapy consists of implanting stem cells in the damaged tissue to restore its functions or regenerate it.
