Cubas infant mortality rate due to acute respiratory infections dropped 98 percen
Experts pointed out that Cuban authorities have implemented the strategies recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for those cases, including the control of risk factors, vaccines and standard treatment of patients, rational use of antibiotics and 100-percent medical coverage.

Other actions are the creation of intensive care services, regular training of experts, epidemiological surveillance and social communication, among others.

Acute respiratory infections account for 20 percent of deaths among children under five years of age in developing countries, and affects many children during their first year of life.
