First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura heads Delegation to Regional Meeting in Lima, Peru
According to Granma news daily, the delegation also includes Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, head of the Foreign Relations Department at the Central Committee of Cubas Communist Party and Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, among other officials.

The main topics of this summit are: "The Fight against Poverty, Inequality and Exclusion" and "Sustainable Development: Environment, Climate Change and Energy."

The head of the Cuban delegation, which already traveled to Peru, will participate in two round tables scheduled for the summit and will hold bilateral meetings with other dignitaries attending the event.

Representatives from some 60 countries concluded on Wednesday the two-day stage at the level of experts in which they discussed the final document of the meeting to be signed by the dignitaries on Friday.

The document, which will be called 'Declaration of Lima, will now be analyzed by foreign ministers.

Participants in this event are trying to elaborate a so-called "Lima Agenda against Poverty, Inequality and Exclusion" that would include concrete measures by the participating nations to mitigate these scourges.

The agenda would also set up shared commitments to cooperate in the fight against drug trafficking, the regulation of immigration and the promotion of trade.

In parallel with this event, the 3rd Summit of the Peoples is also underway in Lima. On Wednesday, a seminar of progressive political parties and indigenous leaders took place as part of its program. Participants rejected the political violence and militarist decisions by the government of Alvaro Uribe in Colombia.
