According to Prensa Latina news agency, durign the meeting, Valdes Mesa stressed the importance of consolidating integration among Latin American and Caribbean trade unions in order to defend workers rights and he urged participants to support the progressive governments of the region.

After the end of the event, the Cuban trade union leader visited the Eloy Alfaro ophthalmological center in the city of Latacunga, where Cuban specialists make their contribution.

The CTC leader said that local authorities and the people of Latacunga showed him their appreciation and gratitude for the work of the Caribbean doctors and also for the work of several Cuban specialists that are helping in the implementation there of the Cuban literacy program 'Yo si puedo (Yes, I Can).
