Cuban ophthalmologists have treated more than 94.000 Paraguayans since October 2005
According to Prensa Latina news agency, Cabrera added that, until September of last year, 3.631 Paraguayan patients traveled to the Caribbean nation to receive ophthalmological treatment as part of the Operation Miracle free eye-surgery program promoted by Cuba and Venezuela for low-income people, mainly from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cabrera praised the efforts of the 20 Cuban specialists and technicians there who worked in the construction of a small and modest ophthalmological center in Pilar, some 358 kilometers to the South of Asuncion, the Paraguayan capital, which began operating last November.

Since then, Cabrera said, they have treated 73.138 patients and have performed more than 2.000 surgeries.

He noted that the Operation Miracle program in Paraguay now covers 15 of the countrys 17 provinces and 87 of its 266 districts.
