Chan, who was participating in the 9th World Conference on Prevention of Injuries and Promotion of Safety in Chetumal, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, gave a lecture in which she said that the panorama is different in countries such as Brazil and Peru, whom she urged to work harder in order to reduce the incidence rate of this illness.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, the top WHO official noted that 39% of the cases of patients affected by tuberculosis were not detected in time, which shows the slowness of diagnoses.
Chan highlighted that while many national anti-tuberculosis programs improve their effectiveness, most of the Third World countries lack the necessary equipment and resources to carry out rapid diagnoses.
