In Panama: Operation Miracle by Cuba and Venezuela
Dianela Avila, program coordinator for the Atlantic region said that patients have received a postoperative care in the Dr. Juan Antonio Nuñez in Colon, some 80 kilometers from Panamá City.

Guillermina Zorrila, one of the patients operated for cataracts, explained that her operation was financed by the government through an aid agreement from Cuba.

She told a reporter from La Prensa newspaper that her life has improved.

Operation Miracle is a joint health programme between Cuba and Venezuela, set up in 2005.

The initiative is part of the Sandino commitment, which sees both countries coming together with the aim of offering free ophthalmology operations to an estimated 6 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The project is also part of ALBA, the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas.
