Haitian President Arrives to Cuba for Petrocaribe Summit
Haitian President Rene Preval arrived in Cuba to attend the Fourth Petrocaribe Summit to take place in the city of Cienfuegos on December 21.

Upon arriving at the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, Preval expressed his satisfaction for being back in Cuba, where he will share with the participants in the summit, reported Radio Rebelde.

The event is the result of a cooperation accord led by Venezuela as part of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).
The Haitian president is accompanied by Lionel Henriquez, head of the tripartite commission made up of Haiti, Cuba and Venezuela.

Twelve heads of government have confirmed their participation at the Summit, including Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Daniel Ortega (Nicaragua), Leonel Fernandez (Dominican Republic), Bruce Golding (Jamaica), Baldwin Spencer (Antigua and Barbuda) and Ralph Gonsalves(San Vicente and the Grenadines).

For the first time the presidents from Guatemala and Honduras were invited to take part in the event for the first time. Representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are also expected to participate.

The Cuban delegation to the summit will be headed by Cuban Vice President Raul Castro.
