Cuban experts have developed a method to early diagnose hypertension during pregnancy, a disease known as eclampsia, paving the way to counter that risk factor.
The tests carried out so far in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba have helped researchers to learn more about the disease and the factors that cause it, including a family history, allergies and a mixed blood race.
After knowing those factors, the experts can detect those women who are prone to suffer from eclampsia in an early stage of pregnancy.
In the most serious cases of eclampsia, patients can suffer from convulsions, kidney failure, hepatic disorders and edemas, among other problems that can cause maternal or fetal death.
