As part of the Cuban government's public health programs, the top technologies in hip prosthesis are being extended to all hospitals in the country.

Professor Dr. Rodrigo Alvarez Cambra, president of the Cuban Orthopaedic Society told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the progress in the medical specialty is the result of the Cuban government's unlimited efforts to meet the basic needs of the people.

Dr. Alvarez Cambra is presiding over the International Congress on Orthopaedics underway at the Plaza America convention center in Varadero, Matanzas. Some 300 experts from ten countries are attending the event.

He told ACN that state-of-the-art hip prosthesis techniques are used not only in major city hospitals but also in medical facilities in smaller communities. It is expected that by the year 2007, the technique will be applied in all health centers throughout the island, said Dr. Alvarez Cambra, who is also director of the Frank Pais International
