Diabetes mellitus is the topic attracting most attention in the Internal Medicine Congress, MEDINTERN 2006, taking place in this capital.

Cuba's internal medicine research includes disorders linked to diabetes, early detection of the disease, and well as management of chronic complications, Dr. Emilio Buchaca Faxas, chairman of the event's organizing committee informed.

Related work is focusing on the identification of signs that allow for early detection of atherosclerotic or vascular damage, before the complications appear, the expert stated.

On the occasion of the World Diabetes Day on November 14, Faxas revealed, Cuba's Diabetes Society and Endocrinology Institute are developing several activities.

Also, experts on the subject will meet in Cuba next year during the Latin American Diabetes Congress, the doctor announced.
