Clay and Fire Party
Once again, the notoriety of this territory in the creation of pottery and ceramics is showed up in the Clay and Fire Party (Fiesta de Barro y Fuego)that started Wednesday at the Plaza de los Trabajadores, located in the historic quarter of Camaguey city.

With the participation of 140 contesters, summoned by the Cuban Association of Artisans and Artists (ACAA), the contest will make possible the strollers can enjoy the demonstrations of craftspeople like Marta Jiménez y Oscar Rodríguez Lasseria in the hard trade of modeling the mud.

Skill competitions, collective and personal exhibitions and theoretical workshops centered on the 30th anniversary of artistic ceramics in Camagüey are scheduled for the 2007 edition of the Party.

Miguel Báez Álvarez, Manuel Barrero Rivero and Ángel Pareta González, renowned experts in the use of the potter wheel and skillful ceramic ware handbuilders will be honored this year.

A catalogue entitled Midas, which is a summary of the actions taken and to be taken by the ACAA local branch office in 2007, will be launched during the Clay and Fire Party that is held here from today up to May 21st.
