Tomas Regalado, Miami Mayor, expressed his rejection, by "moral reasons", to the eventual opening of a general consulate of Cuba in Miami, which would be, he said, "a provocation" to the "capital of exile."
Regalado made the remarks at a citizenship ceremony for foreign civilians, in which he made clear his position on this matter.
The act was also attended by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Republican Congresswoman for Florida, who accused American President, Barack Obama, of making an "experiment with Cuba, like a zoo.” But that is a country, she said, in which "the people suffer because they lack freedom, democracy and human rights ".
The White House "will not receive a penny for the new Embassy (in Havana), nor will confirm any ambassador, because we have not seen any change in Cuba," stressed the Congresswoman of the Republican Party, which has a majority in both chambers.
