A bill has recently been submitted in the United States Senate that would allow the entry into Cuba of telecommunications companies such as AT&T and Verizon and the provision of telephony and Internet services. The proposal named Cuba Digital and Telecommunications Advancement Act has been conducted by Democratic senators Dick Durbin ( Illinois) and Tom Udall ( New Mexico) and Republicans Mike Enzi (Wyoming ) and Jeff Flake (Arizona ).
If the bill is approved, thousands of Cubans could more easily have access to the Internet and enjoy the advantages of smartphones. It is not secret that today, most of the Cuban population lacks cell lines and Internet access is not common and is not available to everyone .
To have an infrastructure and an efficient, competitive and open access to the network and the information services would be a great step forward for all Cubans on the island.
