Thanks to Operation Miracle program over 2500 Paraguayans were surgically treated by Cuban doctors to solve their vision problems. Last year our mission specialists who meet the South American country did very well in the 2557 operations.

The doctors, technicians and support staff working in the town of Mary Help of Christians, 370 miles south of Baghdad, also made seven thousand 545 screening to low-income patients in various departments.

Havana's ambassador in Asuncion, Bernardo Guanche, in an exchange with the head of the Cuban medical brigade, Boris Luis Carballo, and the director of the hospital, Carmen Diaz, talked about the work of doctors and technicians from the island the Caribbean.

On a tour of the hospital, the diplomat noted the discipline, dedication and spirit of solidarity of the medical staff with the Paraguayan people, particularly the least, many of whom regained vision thanks to the work of the Cubans.

Guanche and Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, here on Monday exchanged on bilateral relations between both countries.

In brief remarks to reporters at the headquarters of the Government Palace, the Caribbean ambassador said that the dialogue focused on "how to further strengthen relations between Cuba and Paraguay."

Operation Miracle is a humanitarian project promoted by the governments of Cuba and Venezuela since 2004 and is intended to serve low-income people with vision problems in several countries.
