Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Greene said again Thursday he was open to lifting travel and trade restrictions with Cuba, saying the tourism impact for Florida created by easing the restrictions could be huge.

"Every time somebody goes to Cuba, they're going to combine it with a trip to Florida," Greene said in the middle of a campaign stop at a back to school block party in St. Petersburg. "And if it doesn't work, we can always bring the embargo back."

Greene organized the block party for about 100 or so children and their parents in a predominantly African American neighborhood in St. Petersburg. The campaign provided free food, popcorn and school supplies for the kids.

The freebies appeared to hold greater sway with the crowd than Greene, who spoke briefly before letting people return to the
food line and bounce house.

"My whole election is about kids," said Greene, accompanied by his wife Mei. "I want each and every one of them to have the same kind of chances I had."
