Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon stated that Cuba and Havana's University changed forever and the disgraceful past overcome with martyrs'blood will never return.

Alarcon made this statement during a central activity held on Saturday night, on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the attack on the Presidential Palace and the national Radio Reloj station, carried out by the Revolutionary Directorate, led by then University Student Federation President Jose Antonio Echeverria, who fell in action.

Addressing veterans of that armed confrontation and student leaders, Alarcon recalled, in front of the former Presidential Palace that falling in combat, Jose Antonio's short and creative existence ended, after transforming radically the youth and university movement.

About the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, unfairly imprisoned in US jails, to whom the meting was dedicated, Alarcon said that the indomitable will and example of Jose Antonio and his comrades live and grow in them.

Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez were proclaimed honorary delegates to the 9th Congress of the Cuban Communist Youth League.

Other activities to honor the combatants of that heroic deed were held at the tomb that keeps Echevarria's remains at the cemetery in Cardenas, his home city, and in front of the national Radio Reloj building in Havana.
