The 9th edition of the Festival of New Producers, which is taking place in Havana  until Sunday, was inaugurated on Tuesday with a novel performance by Cuban filmmaker Juan Carlos Cremata at Havana’s Chaplin Movie Theater.

During the inaugural gala, by breaking usual standards of cinematographic screening, the audience enjoyed a show in which elements of Afro-Cuban folklore were harmoniously combined, in a stage performance that surprised the public.

A moving moment was the tribute made, by way of images, to late Cuban film director Humberto Solas (1941-2008), to whom this fiesta of young cinema is dedicated.

After the inaugural ceremony, participants enjoyed the presentation of the short movies “Reflexiones”, by Laura Tariche and Yimit Ramirez; the Cuban-Dutch co- production “Casi”, by Carlos Quintela; and the documentary “Tormentas de verano”, produced in France, by Heidi Hassan.

Also during the first day of the Festival (Wednesday) the photographic exhibition Images of Life, dedicated to Solas, was inaugurated at the Chaplin Movie Theater, where a special showing of the feature film Chamaco, by Juan Carlos Cremata, was
made.  Likewise, an exhibition of posters made by students from the Institute of Higher Design was inaugurated, at the 23 y 12 movie theater.

Scheduled for Thursday at the Fresa y Chocolate Cultural Center, besides the screening of competing films, are morning theoretical debates, which on Wednesday were devoted to narration from the point of view of film language.
