Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir highlighted on Tuesday Cuba's resistance, faced with 50 years of US hostility and economic blockade, as well as its social achievements, particularly in health and education.

After receiving credentials from Otto Vaillant Frias, new Cuban concurrent ambassador to the Khartoum government, Al-Bashir also stressed the Caribbean nation's leadership in fighting Washington's hegemonic policy worldwide.

"Cuba is open to cooperate with this African-Arab country in several spheres, particularly in the international work by Cuban professionals," the Sudanese statesman told Vaillant.

Cuban diplomatic sources in this capital told Prensa Latina that Al-Bashir expressed satisfaction with his visit to Havana, paid in September, 2006 to attend the 14th Non-Aligned Movement Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The Cuban ambassador arrived in Khartoum on Sunday, and held meetings separately with Sudanese Foreign Minister Deng Alor Kuol, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Yusuf Abdalah, and Presidential Minister Bakri Hassan Salih.

Vaillant also met with Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Peter Adwok Nyaba Tor, who recently visited the Cuba to participate in the "Universidad 2010" Conference.

The island's diplomat also held a meeting with Parliamentary Relations Minister Josheph Okelo, General Education Minister Hamid Muhammad Ibrahim, and Information and Communication Minister Zahawi Ibrahim Malek.

Vaillant, who was honored in this capital by the Mexican honorary consulate, also held talks with leaders from the Sudanese Association of Friendship with the Peoples, the Sudanese Communist Party, and other authorities, the sources reported.
