Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov begins Thursday an official visit to Cuba where he will meet with the island's peer Bruno Rodriguez to consolidate growing bilateral ties.

During his stay in Havana, his second as a foreign minister, Lavrov will preside over the Inter-Ministerial Meeting on Political Consultations, and lead his country' delegation to the 19th Havana International Book Fair that, this time as a guest of honor.

The visitor will also pay tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the monument erected at the Havana's Revolution Square.

Cuba and Russia are celebrating this year the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of their diplomatic relations, and bilateral political links are currently taking place at the same level.

Both nations have important ties in the economic-trade sphere, and Russia boosts investments in Cuba, especially in energy.

According to official sources, nickel industry, transportation, information technology, tourism and fishing are other collaboration projects.
