A Cuban planetarium opened in the historical centre of Havana, honoring the invention of the telescope by the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei (1609-2009) four centuries ago.

Located in the Plaza Vieja, the planetarium will have telescopes, an astronomic library of computerized graphics, a space theatre with capacity for 65 people, interactive games, and a qualified staff of astronomers and physicians.

It also has a projector that picks up 6.500 stars and is encircled by a huge sphere which represents the sun.

The iniciative will enrich the scientific heritage of the Old Havana, which includes the House of Alejandro de Humboldt, the

National History Museum and the Museum of the History of Science Carlos J, Finlay.
