The world premiere of the play “Cigüeñas en el trópico” (Storks in the tropics), by playwright Freddy Nuñez will take place early January in the Ismaelillo movie theatre at the eastern province of Holguin.

Scheduled from January 8 to 10, the play will feature the Alas Buenas Theatre Company of Holguin, one of the best known Cuban  companies, winner of several awards in national festivals.

Based on the classic "Three Sisters", by the Russian writer Anton Chekhov, the story deals with the dreams of migration in people lacking the will to face the vicissitudes that sometimes appear in people’s life, explained Nunez to the local media.

It is a recreation of the work of Chekhov (1860-1904) brought to modern times, but with a pattern similar to that experienced by the protagonists of the original work, written in 1901.

Manuel Rodriguez, director of Alas Buenas, told the media that this will be the third time that Nunez has worked with this company, as he previously wrote the works “Lo que te voy a contar” (I´ll tell you something) and " Las noches del cafetal” (Nights at the Coffee Plantation), widely accepted by the public and domestic critics.

Freddy is the director of the “Teatro del viento" theatre company of Camaguey, but he is always looking for a space to work with the Holguin Company, who recognizes the talent of this scriptwriter.

Founded on April 4th, 1997, "Alasbuenas" directs its work to children, teenagers and youth as a key audience.
