Cuban national volleyball team defeated this Saturday its Egyptian
counterpart 3-2 at the Grand Champions Cup, underway in the Japanese city of Nagoya.

 Now Cuba accumulates 2 wins an a loss, since it lost 2-3 on the first day to Brazil, Beijing Olympics runner-up; later the Caribbean team overcame Poland 3-1, both games played in Osaka.


According to the event’s website, the Caribbean squad beat Egypt with scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-7, in one hour 49 minutes.

Cuban leader scorers were Captain Roberlandy Simon with 18 points (8 kills, 6 blocks and one ace), Michael Sanchez, also with 18 (15-3-0), and Wilfredo Leon with 17 (16-0-1).

Meanwhile, the best Egyptians were Ahmed Abdelhay, with 16 (14-2-0), Mohamed Bodaway, with 15 (14-1-0) y Saleh Youssef, with 10 (9-1-0).

In the same tournament defending champion Brazil and host Japan remained undefeated after beating 3-0 (25-17, 25-17 y 25-18) and 3-2 (27-25, 18-25, 25-23, 20-25 and 16-14) Poland and Iran, respectively.
