Stephen Matlin, Executive Director of the Global Forum for Health
Research, highlighted the support Cuba gives to the development of research in this field, despite the economic limitations.
 
In an exclusive interview to ACN Maitlin, who is participating in the annual meeting of this entity, underway in Havana city through this coming Friday with the attendance of over 800 experts from 80 countries, stressed that Cuba is very strong in this field and an example to follow by other countries.

The official praised the Cuban medical collaboration extended over a hundred needy nations, where the sanitary levels have risen, and he also praised the resources devoted to research and its access for the entire population.

He also underscored the actions taken by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health in preventive medicine from the primary healthcare system which brought the results Cuba exhibits nowadays with an infant mortality in 4.7 per thousand, from 60 in 1959.

On that regard the most outstanding features are the mother-children programme, and the immunization ones, which follow the development of pregnant women since their first weeks to the vaccination to newly born against 13 preventable diseases.

Stephen Matlin compared those results to other countries where failures in science, market and public health have limited the healthcare, he said.
