Cuba Acquires New Technology to Produce Surgical Gauze

The project, a result of agreements related to the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA), will start with the production of some 12 million cubic meters of surgical gauze for medical centers that will represent a significant contribution to the replacement of imports.
The gradual installation of 60 looms and other equipment will complete an investment to allow the factory produce 45 million cubic meters that would cover the needs of all the health institutions of the country.
During the first quarter of 2009, the Desembarco del Granma Textile Industry produced more than 3,160,000 cubic meters of fabric for uniforms. This represents a 35% increase of production compared to the same period last year.
