German Dance Company Sasha Waltz and Guests to Perform in Cuba
The presentations of the German dancers are in the framework of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Contemporary Dance Company. They will perform the dance Zweiland, inspired by the reunification of Germany.

Renowned dancer Juan Cruz, a member of Sasha Waltz and Guests, will give his Cuban colleagues a workshop.

About the German dance company, experts say it is the most outstanding dance event since the post-modern dance of Pina Bausch –regarded as the German queen of dance theatre.

Named ‘Choreographer of the Year’ in August 2007 by the German trade journal Ballet-Tanz, Sasha Waltz and her prestigious dance company are currently on a tour across the Atlantic Ocean, at the invitation of the Goethe-Institute, with performances here in Havana, as well as in Ottawa, Montreal, and San Francisco.

Founded in 1993, Sasha Waltz and Guests has a large repertoire comprised of 16 large, internationally acclaimed choreographies, their film versions, and projects that focus on architecture and special locations. More than 150 artists from 25 countries have performed as ‘guests’ besides producing their own independent pieces.

Sasha Waltz was born in 1963 in Karlsruhe, Germany. From 1983 to 1987 she studied dance and choreography in Amsterdam und New York City. In 1992, she traveled to Berlin when the Künstlerhaus Bethanien awarded her a scholarship. In 1993, she founded Sasha Waltz & Guests together with Jochen Sandig.
