Twenty eight Cubans Nominated for 2008 National Economy Prize
Created in 1997, this incentive includes technicians, professionals, researchers and specialists, and is granted in the categories of Economy, Accounting, and Audit.

The Deputy Minister for Audit and Control, Ivón Aguilera, who is also the president of the jury, told ACN that it was hard to select the candidates from among the 92 dossiers presented by institutions from the Central State Administration and Provincial Administration Councils.

He stated that nine of the finalists come from the provinces of Pinar del Río, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, while the rest are from the Cuban capital.

This is the 12th edition of the prize, sponsored by the ministries of Economy and Planning, Finance and Prices, and Audit and Control, to encourage the work of professionals and other personalities with continuous work in this important field.

Roberto Verrier, president of Cuba's National Association of Economists and Accountants, the presentation's venue, recalled the support of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, for the granting of this award since he was informed about its objectives in 1999, showing respect, admiration, and love toward these professionals.

The final selection of the awards will conclude over the next few days, and the results will be made public on April 17, during a formal ceremony in Havana's Mella Theater.

Conversing with nominees in this activity were the Minister of Audit and Control, Gladys Bejerano; vice-ministers of sponsoring institutions, and members of the jury, most of them awarded in previous editions of the prize.
