Lázara Herrera, president of the event, pointed out that this edition will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (Cuban Institute for the Arts and Movie Industry) (ICAIC in Spanish) to the 10th anniversary of the event and to Uruguay as the guest of honour country.

She said that during the event there will be a special moment for the 90th anniversary of the birth of Santiago Álvarez, considered one of the greatest producers of documentary cinema.

The opportunity will be the right one to recognize Octavio Cortázar, who was the president of the first jury this event had, he pointed out.

There will be exhibited a big sample of Uruguayan materials on indigenous coexistence and that of immigrants, as well as a selection of the best things of the festival during a decade.

There will also be premiered the photo exhibitions El ojo de la Revolución (The eye of the Revolution) where the life of Álvarez is very briefly narrated, Lo trascendente de lo cotidiano (The important things of everyday life), Blanco y Negro (White and Black) and a poster exhibition that reflects the history of the event from its very beginning to our days.

Among the personalities who will be in Santiago de Cuba are the Spanish movie critic Román Guben, Orlando Senna, manager of the Televisión de América Latina (Latin American Television) System (TAL in Spanish), as well as the Cuban writer Reynaldo González.

The theoretical events and exhibition that make up the program will be localized in the Titón Room from the UNEAC, the Rialto and Cuba movie complexes, the House of the Young Creator and the seat of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People in the region.

Among the novelties of the festival in the University of Oriente are the Constitution of the Santiago Álvarez Department Studies, from the Frank País Pedagogical Institute and the edition of three newspapers, to proclaim the actions of this encounter which will include student and work centres.
