In letters addressed to President Raul Castro reproduced in the Granma and Juventud Rebelde dailies, Lage and Perez Roque resigned from all government and Communist Party posts.

I recognized the errors committed and assume responsibility. The analysis by the Political Bureau meeting was fair and deep, Lage wrote.

I can assure you, he stressed, that my new position will be an opportunity to continue serving the Revolution, and that I will remain loyal to the Communist Party, Fidel and you.

In his letter, Perez Roque pledged to continue modestly and loyally defending the Revolution, to whose principles and ideals, he wrote, I will always be fully committed.

He also reiterated his loyalty to Fidel (Castro), President Raul Castro and the Communist Party of Cuba.

Both Lage and Perez Roque were removed from their posts as executive secretary of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister, respectively, on Monday.
