Cuban President Raul Castro Meets with French Envoy
President Raul Castro met on Wednesday afternoon in Havana with Jack Lang, a special envoy of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Lang expressed the French president’s desire to boost relations between Cuba and France, as well as work to promote ties between Cuba and the European Union within a framework of reciprocal respect.

Raul favorably received the initiative of Sarkozy and confirmed Cuba’s interest in revitalizing the traditional political and economic relations and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The Cuban president also stated his government’s willingness to continue the political dialogue between Cuba and the European Union, resumed in October 2008 in Paris on the basis of mutual respect.

The French Ambassador to Cuba, Frederic Dore, his wife Monique Lang, and Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque also took part at the friendly meeting between Raul and Lang.

Jack Lang is an important political personality in his country, where he held the posts of Minister of Culture and Education during the government of Francois Mitterrand, as well as having been a legislator and president of the parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
