Doctors Waldesmar Rodriguez and Leonides Laguna, basically assist people suffering from disorders of muscle tone in the eyes, face and neck or in combination with application of Botulinum toxin.

Opened in 2007, this service has provided medical treatment to over thirty patients in 2008 and so far the current year 16 patients have been treated.

Dr Rodriguez explained that the application of the toxin helps patients to improve their health conditions for up to six months, but rarely achieved total cure. He added that this happens because dystonias tend to recur regularly, usually associated with sustained stress situations.

Rodriguez also expressed that as distony has no defined etiology; researchers are trying to find out whether it is a disease itself or is associated with others such as Huntington’s chorea disease.

According to Rodriguez, the toxin is produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria, with high cost bulb injection in the international market.
