President Raúl Castro Ruz,gave the national banner to the Cuban baseball team going to Mexico today to compete in group B in the 2nd World Baseball Classic.

Raúl gave it to player Eduardo Paret, escorted by Yoenis Céspedes and Yosvany Peraza; afterwards, Frederich Cepeda read the team’s commitment. “We are sure of our victory. Our everlasting manager, Fidel, together with Raúl, make up our team,” said Cepeda at the ceremony in the Revolution Palace.

Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, told the players things are doing to be hard in this 2nd World Baseball Classic, “the opposition is strong, but we are more experienced and our preparation is the best.”

Lazo added “you have the full support of Fidel and Raúl”, and remembered words of our Commander in Chief, in 2006 “we await you with the shield or under the shield.”

Later, Raúl talked briefly with the members of the Cuban team of the 2nd World Baseball Classic and whished them luck.
