Cuba Wins Budapest Judo World Cup
Yamasni Piker, 60 kg, won the silver medal on the first day of the event, in which 342 judokas from 45 countries participated. Later, Oreidis Despaigne garnered the gold in the 100 kg, while Oscar Brayson (+100 Kg) won a bronze.

Professor Justo Noda told ACN that Despaigne had a very good performance during the competition, with six straight victories. The last one, against Brazilian Luciano Correa, whom the Cuban beat by a Yuco (Te Gruma) was the best, according to Noda.

Brayson ended with four wins by Ippon and one defeat, by Ippon as well. He disputed the bronze with Slovenian Cedar, who could not stop the Ippon (Morete Gari). Piker also won four but fell in the final to South Korean Choui by a penalty.

Also in the Cuban team were Ronald Girones and Oscar Cardenas, who contributed points to the general result, both of them placed seventh in the 66 and 81 kg classes, respectively.

The next and last commitment for the Cuban judo team on their tour of Europe will be the Hamburg Grand Prix. Previously they participated in the Paris Grand Slam, France where Yordanis Arencibia won the solver medal on his new division, 73 kg.
