The Cuban National Poet at the Havana Book Fair
Thanks to the foundation bearing his name and the Cuban Book Institute, readers will enjoy key works in the production of Guillén, who died in late 1980.

Among them, a compilation of his texts about races, one of the topics for which he was best known, and his “Antología mayor” in a new edition by Letras Cubanas, one of the country´s most important publishing houses.

It will be also presented a selection of articles, commentaries, and opinion about “Motivos de son,” one of Guillén’s crucial writings, “Polvo de oro,” a story dealing with a moment in the poet’s life, and “Las palomas de Guillén,” a book for adolescents by writer Julio Llanes, born in Sancti Spíritus province.

According to Nicolás Hernández Guillén, president of the Foundation and grandson of the famous poet, the program will include contributions by such outstanding Cuban thinkers as Fernando Martínez Heredia, Nancy Morejón, and Carlos Martí.

Children and teenagers will enjoy the multimedia “Por el Mar de las Antillas,” which does not only comprise verses of the work dedicated to children, but also games, illustrations, and a glossary of terms that will help enrich the readers’ vocabulary. In addition, “La Colmenita,” the most popular artistic group of children, is preparing a spectacle based on the poem collection.

As it has been the tradition, the Fair’s program will include a colloquium on Guillén, this time intended to establish the links with the work of Pablo Neruda, in line with the special invitation honouring Chile and its literature this year. César López, Guillermo Rodríguez Rivera, Vladimir Ferro, and renowned French Hispanist Alain Sicard will take part in the forum.
