205th Anniversary of Haitian Independence Celebrated in Havana
The ambassador of the Republic of Haiti in Cuba, Jean Victor Jeneus, and the first vice-president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), Enrique Román, presided over the celebrations for the 205th anniversary of Haiti’s independence on Tuesday in this capital.

Also present at the celebration were representatives from the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Cuba, and leaders from grass-root and political organizations.

During the activity, held at ICAP´s Friendship House, Román said that on January 1st, 1804, with the independence of the Haitian nation, the foundations of the anti-colonial victories of countries under slavery in the Americas were laid.

History is capricious, and made it coincide, on two January Firsts, also the triumph of our countries independence, said the vice- president, and pointed out that the ranks of Cuban soldiers fighting for the liberation of the archipelago also nurtured from fraternal Haiti and its descendants.

Likewise, Jean Victor Jeneus made reference to the current situation of bilateral relations, and listed the missions Cubans have fulfilled and are fulfilling in the Caribbean sister nation.

Since diplomatic relations were re-established on January 6, 1996, Cuba’s selfless cooperation with Haiti has been faithful to the thinking of national heroes like Toussaint Louverture, Jean Jacques Dessaline, and Jean Christophe Pation, stressed the ambassador.
