Cuba vice minister of Science, Technology and Environment,
Cuba vice minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Lina Dominguez, said the Cuban scientific community has the challenge to provide the island with enough products and services to relieve the blow to its economy caused by three hurricanes that hit the island last year.

Dominguez said one of the goals is to increase exports and replace imports with national products by introducing new varieties of crops in the country agriculture.

New strategies in several sectors like energy, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical industry and in health applications are being outlined, said the official and noted that all scientific centers and other institutions and ministries are working together on those plans with the objective of raising the Cuban people quality of life.

The Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment is responsible for the drawing up research projects, the definition of priorities, its organization and the implementation of their results.
